In July 2016, County Executive Steve Schuh appointed John Leopold to the Anne Arundel County Disability Commission. Mr. Leopold, a longtime advocate for people with disabilities, had been appointed by President George Bush to the National Council on Disability and by U.S. Secretary of Education Richard Riley to the Federal Commission for Infants and Toddlers with Disabilities. He also had been appointed by Governor Glendening to the State Commission for the Employment of Individuals with Disabilities. As County Executive, Mr. Leopold budgeted funds for Freedom Field at Lake Waterford, the first park in Anne Arundel County and just the third in the state with athletic accommodations designed for disabled athletes. Mr. Leopold will continue to work to improve skills training and transit accessibility to enable more people with disabilities to enter the workplace.
